GOP’s economic war on women about to explode - Salon.com
GOP’s economic war on women about to explode - Salon.com: I laugh when I hear people warn that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic women are trying to annex economic issues as “women’s issues,” as though they’re being supremely politically crafty, or sneaky, if not downright dishonest. (Even the Huffington Post depicted Pelosi’s recent framing of a “women’s economic agenda” as “rebranding.”)

Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders? - Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic - Harvard Business Review
Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders? - Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic - Harvard Business Review: In my view, the main reason for the uneven management sex ratio is our inability to discern between confidence and competence. That is, because we (people in general) commonly misinterpret displays of confidence as a sign of competence, we are fooled into believing that men are better leaders than women.

Our Entire Belief System Must Change - Room for Debate - NYTimes.com
Our Entire Belief System Must Change - Room for Debate - NYTimes.com: I was raised to believe I was equal and discovered, working in movies, that this wasn’t true. I’ve spent my life trying to change that. Though female directors are now a small part of the industry, we are an invisible minority. Even in government, we lack representation. It feels like we’ve gone backward. The cultural dismissal of women is so ingrained that the public, including women, doesn’t seem to perceive a problem.

Sheryl WuDunn: Our century's greatest injustice | Video on TED.com: Sheryl WuDunn's book "Half the Sky" investigates the oppression of women globally. Her stories shock. Only when women in developing countries have equal access to education and economic opportunity will we be using all our human resources.

Some experts argue that men are finished and women are taking over.
Others say that male and female roles are simply shifting.

To Whom Apologies Are Really Due | The Nation
To Whom Apologies Are Really Due | The Nation: "I had a visceral reaction to the news that Virginia Thomas had called Anita Hill and asked her for an apology. In 1991 I was a college freshman, and the televised Hill-Thomas hearings were my adult initiation into the public vilification of black women. I watched as white male senators and conservative commentators exploited the common myth of black women as promiscuous to cast Hill as oversexed and delusional. I remember when Thomas draped himself in the history of America's racial violence by angrily referring to his confirmation process as a 'high-tech lynching."

Women's choices, not abilities, keep them out of math-intensive fields
Women's choices, not abilities, keep them out of math-intensive fields: "The question of why women are so underrepresented in math-intensive fields is a controversial one. Blog U.: An Unspoken Threat - University of Venus - Inside Higher Ed: "am not the kind of person who feels uncomfortable about confrontations. I don’t go looking for them, but I don’t shrink from them either. When students inappropriately challenge me in class I usually deal with them without too much of a hassle. Yes, I feel annoyed when it happens. And my first thought usually is, would he (it is most often a male student) be doing this or saying this if I were a white man? But then things settle down and I can almost forget that I am a young female faculty of color. Almost."

Why must women’s colleges exist? A personal reflection : Historiann : History and sexual politics, 1492 to the present
Why must women’s colleges exist? A personal reflection : Historiann : History and sexual politics, 1492 to the present: "This could be a very short post, withmy answer beingbecause they p!$$ off and disturb so many people! But I’ll take the time to explain, for those of you who are curious. As some of you recall, I linked to Tenured Radical’s series last week on the role of women’s colleges in women’s education, and jumped into the fray of the comments threads as well."
